The Imperfect Present

Fireflies by Javeria Hasnain (Pakistan, 23)

9/13/2023

A bug crawls on my arms;
I keep reading under
the lamplight.

You crawl in my arms,
& keep bugging under
the moonlight.

The moonlight bugs
my arms as if a firefly,
reading it.

My arm crawls into the
bug as if a book,
searching light.

Javeria Hasnain is a Pakistani poet and writer from Karachi. Her poems and prose have appeared/is forthcoming in Pleiades, Poet Lore, Isele, among others.
