The Afterpast Review

A Feminist Magazine

Man Made by Marie Kynd (Utah, 24)

7/15/2023

                                                                      Is a woman man   made?
                                                                  What was woman before man?
Did she have reason to get mad?
Did she cry until it hurt?
Did she ever wonder, who       it
Was she served? Who was   she?
                                           Or                  who could she be?
                                                                      Do women still
                                                                                    wonder?
                                                                                             No.
                                                                                            Yes?
Was she a stereotype of emotions overflowing?
Or did she smile more often?
                                                                               (And dance naked?)
                                                                                   Maybe she did.
                                                                                          Maybe.
                                                                               But that’s the thing
We’ll never get to truly know.
Because now that a woman is
Expected to fit the male gaze.
                                                                               we won’t ever know
                                                                               the truth of us.
                                                                                we are bound
                                                                                to society at
                                                                                best, to our
                                                                                 expectations
                                                                             at the very best.
                                                           Were women meant to lead?
We used to walk by man side
by side. When did we lose what
We would now consider to be a blessing?
I mourn for women like myself, who will NEVER
know their true potential. Men wanted it kept a MYSTERY
                                                                           Time to                Run Away.

Marie Kynd is many things, passionate and creative at the forefront of who she is as an artist. As a creative person she has a few accomplishments under her belt such as; an associates degree in english, an "Emily Dickinson" award for her published poems, an original play being put on at Utah's fringe festival, and a best directing award for a 48 hour film festival in Utah, and a few songs under the name "Marie Kynd" available on all streaming platforms! At twenty-four years old she continues to try to change the world through opening her own business, publishing books to forward the "imperfect present" and touch the lives of people who need a voice, but can't seem to find the right words! As a new editor to the Afterpast magazine she looks forward to seeing her works reviewed by her team and published to at the very least get some people thinking!
