A Past of Protest

Forget-Me-Not (Don’t Remember) by Samantha Zimmerman (New York, 23)

9/6/2023

Forget me as you forgot
that you were supposed to
be mine.

Forget me as you forgot
the empty space in my
bed meant for you
and no other.

Forget me as you forgot
all of the ‘I love you’s,’
and promises of forever.

Forget me as you forgot
That I deserved better
than you.

Forget me as you forgot
that we were ever
together.

                                                                      Forget- me-
                                                                      not— don’t remember.
