Submitting to The Afterpast Review
The Afterpast Review is a feminist literary magazine dedicated to uplifting underrepresented voices. We accept poetry, prose, and dramatic writing from all writers. Our magazine is divided into three different sections:

Submissions do not have to fit into a specific category nor do they have to be about feminism. All accepted submissions will be published in the magazine.

At The Afterpast Review, we do not tolerate any hate speech, discrimination, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of bigotry. Submissions promoting hate speech will be rejected and submitters will be blocked. We will not be accepting submissions with explicit sexual content or violence. This is a literary magazine that is targeted towards the youth, and we hope to create a safe and inclusive space for our writers and readers.
We welcome both simultaneous submissions and previously published pieces!
*For Previously Published Works all rights should be reverted back to the author after its publication in order for those pieces to be submitted again.
Submission Guidelines
Email all submissions to [email protected]. Please include your name, age, where you're from, and a brief 3rd person biography in the body of the email. Works should be attached as a Google Docs, Word Document, or PDF. If this is a simultaneous submission, please let us know in the body of the email, and promptly notify us if your work has been selected elsewhere. If the work has been previously published, send us the name of the publication, so we may properly credit them. If your submission includes triggering content, please include the appropriate trigger warnings. Our response time is 3 weeks but we do request for a grace period of 1 month in the case that we get a huge influx of submissions in a given day. If we haven't gotten back to your submission in 3 weeks, please let us know. Our editors provided feedback for each submission; In the email, let us know if you prefer to not receive any feedback. Finally, if your work strongly fits one of the three divisions in our magazine, notify us with section (A Past of Protest, The Imperfect Present, A Feminist Future) you'd like to be considered for!
*Publications will include the contributor's preferred name, age, where they're from, and their 3rd person biography; however, you are free to omit certain details as we hope to respect your privacy.
Rights
For accepted pieces, The Afterpast Review asks for First North American Serial Rights and First Electronic Rights. After publication, all rights will revert back to the author. Authors may resubmit their work elsewhere once the piece has been published on this magazine provided that they credit this publication. If your work has been previously published, we ask for Second Serial Rights and Archival Rights with all rights reverting back to the author after publication. We reserve the nonexclusive rights to publish and archive all accepted submissions.
**If you're a contributor that hasn't been published at this time, all rights have been reverted back to you due to some unexpected delays on our side. All contributors will still be published in the magazine, but they are now free to submit their works elsewhere.
Poetry
- Times New Roman
- Maximum of ~200 lines
- Up to 5 pieces per submission
- Times New Roman
- Includes: Flash Fiction, Fantasy, Magical Realism, Science Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, etc.
- Submissions should be under 5000 words; Flash Fiction submissions should be under 1000 words
- Maximum of 3 pieces per submission
Dramatic Writing
- Standard script format
- Cannot exceed 10 pages
Guest Blog Articles
- Times New Roman
- Submissions should be under 3000 words
- Maximum of 2 pieces per submission
Visual Art
- A detailed paragraph (200-500 words) describing the artwork
- Up to 5 pieces per submission
- Related to Magazine's Theme
